Shanghai

Here is a list of my various posts, thus far, of the various places where vegetarian food is available to eat in Shanghai

  1. Xin Ji SHi - Xintiandi - Shanghai - in the french quarter, in the periphery of the block of restaurants & bars catering to foreign revellers, Xin Ji SHi is an authentic Shanghainese restaurant - I am yet to find a single place that makes their spring onion breads/ pan cakes as well as they do. Love their stuffed lotus roots
  2. Blue Frog - not the best food, but some comfort foods - has a veggie burger that may occassionally taste good - There are a few blue frog outlets across the city.
  3. Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple's vegetarian restaurant - the restaurant is a great excuse to go visit the temple. The restaurant inside is nondescript (don't expect forks & knives here - they only have chop sticks) & serves piping hot stuff - their dumplings were just fabulous enough to be remembered a year and a half after eating them :)
  4. Element Fresh - this is by far, one of the most expat centric restaurants with a good mix of cuisines - the staff are friendly, helpful, speak excellent English. They have a bunch of vegetarian dishes on the menu. One of my all time favorites is their vietnamese noodles (which comes with shrimp) without the shrimp, substituted with Tofu and with extra crispy onions!! yum!! this is a "set" - so, it comes with a soup, fruit & kimchi. Choose pumpkin soup, which is great!!
  5. Slice deli - a nice boutique expat restaurant with some interesting pizzas, with some nice summer time seating.
  6. Pane e Vino - an Italian restaurant, reputed and famous for their ultra thin crust pizzas - have a margarita pizza that is fantastic
  7. Maya | Mexican food | Shanghai - one of my favorites in Shanghai, that I visited only twice - one of the best quesadillas I have ever had. A great ambience & good place to visit - a bit pricey though.
